A disqualified driver has been jailed for eight weeks after driving while banned and uninsured in Chester-le-Street.
Peter Stead, 43, of Second Street, Blackhall Colliery, Hartlepool, admitted driving a Vauxhall Corsa while disqualified and without insurance on Second Avenue, Chester-le-Street, on July 13.
Stead also pleaded guilty to obstructing PC Murphy in the execution of his duty during the incident.
Peterlee Magistrates’ Court heard on August 10, 2026, that the offences showed “a flagrant disregard for court orders”, leading to Stead receiving an immediate custodial sentence.

The court imposed a 41-month disqualification from driving, which included a one-month extension due to the custody sentence.
No order for prosecution costs was made due to sums Stead already owes for fines. Stead’s driving record was endorsed, but no penalty points were given.
The guilty pleas were taken into account by the magistrates when sentencing.
