Lung cancer screening is now being offered to eligible residents in Scarborough.
The programme is aimed at past and current smokers aged 55 to 74 who are registered with a GP practice in the seaside town.
Dr Stuart Baugh, programme director for Humber and North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance’s NHS Lung Cancer Screening programme, said: "We are delighted to be expanding our North Yorkshire lung cancer screening service to now include eligible people in Scarborough, following the successful introduction of lung cancer screening in Selby in January."
Those eligible will receive a letter inviting them to book a 20-minute telephone assessment with a lung cancer screening nurse.
Depending on the outcome of the assessment, individuals may then be offered a low-dose CT scan at the mobile unit based at Scarborough Hospital.
