More than 550 runners sign up for bear-themed charity run in York

More than 550 people have already signed up for a bear-themed 10k run in York.

The Big Bear Run will take place on Sunday, August 16, at Askham Bryan Wildlife and Conservation Park, raising funds for Project Moon Bear, a South Korean initiative that rescues and rehabilitates Asiatic black bears.

The race will begin and end at the wildlife park, with the route taking runners on local roads in the surrounding area.

Tilly McGill, Deputy Animal Sciences & Conservation Manager, said: "I am incredibly proud of the whole running community for banding together to support such an incredible Charity."

"Project Moon Bear does so much work to care for ex-bear-bile bears, and if we can just help them make an impact, then we can make a positive difference."

Runners will receive a bear-themed medal and access to the wildlife park, where they can see the animals up close.

Ms McGill added: "Conservation is at the heart of everything we do, this is the largest-scale event we have ever run for Conservation, we are thankful to be partnering with Curlys Run, who have helped make this all possible.

"Thank you to everyone involved."
