Police are investigating numerous incidents of offensive graffiti daubed along the A64 in North Yorkshire.
They’ve received reports of racist, sexual and misogynistic messages painted on bus-shelters, fences, junction boxes and buildings along a ten-mile stretch of the road between West Knapton and Staxton Hill.
Officers are now asking anyone who cleaned up the graffiti without reporting it to come forward.

The picture above is described as a sanitised photo of some of the least offensive graffiti. But all of the messages are in similar writing.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “These have happened sporadically over the past six months, although we have investigated a number of similar incidents over several years.
“However, it’s believed that there are more incidences recently than we are aware of as community-minded members of the public have cleaned the graffiti as soon as they’ve become aware of it, and in some cases, it has not been reported to us.
“If you see any incidents of graffiti, or have any information about who is responsible, please report it to the police as soon as you can and take a photograph if possible.”
