Hundreds of stargazers gathered amongst the sunflowers in Darlington this evening to watch one of most significant astronomical events in decades.
Crowds came together at Baydale Farm on Wednesday (August 12) to watch the 90% of the sun being blotted out by the moon in a spectacular solar eclipse.
Onlookers peered through their special solar glasses to capture a glimpse of the spectacle, one of the most significant since the total eclipse of 1999.
Crowds also gathered in various locations across the North East, including at Baltic Square and at the Angel of the North in Gateshead.
