A North Yorkshire hospice has expanded its support for patients and families with the addition of a new outdoor community library donated by a housebuilder.
The Little Free Library, gifted by Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire, is now in place at Herriot Hospice in Thirsk, offering a free-to-use collection of books for patients and their loved ones to read, swap, or donate.
Herriot Hospice delivers specialist palliative and end-of-life care across Hambleton and Richmondshire, including emotional wellbeing and bereavement support.
Lucy Wiltshire, community and events manager at Herriot Hospice, said: "We were delighted when Taylor Wimpey got in touch to offer the Little Free Library to the hospice.
"It will make such a difference to our patients and their families, giving them access to a wonderful selection of books to enjoy during their time with us.
"Whether it's sharing a story together, finding a moment of escape, or simply enjoying a good book, reading can bring comfort, connection and companionship.
"We look forward to seeing the library grow as more people donate and swap books over time."
The library is intended to be a lasting and evolving resource, with Taylor Wimpey donating an initial selection of books, with the idea of the library to accommodate future donations and book swaps.
