Teens lured classmate to Yorkshire park before carrying out terrifying knife-point robbery

Two teenagers lured a classmate to a park in Yorkshire before carrying out a terrifying knife-point robbery, a court has heard.

Zain Khan and Nahid Ali have been sentenced for the vicious attack where they threatened the victim with a knife, before beating him and making him transfer money into Khan’s bank account.

Khan, of Kendal Mellor Court in Keighley, went to the cafe at Craven College in Skipton with a fellow classmate before suggesting they go to a nearby supermarket to buy food.

On the way, the 19-year-old pulled out what police described as a ‘machete-type knife’ and forced the victim into woodland on Aireville Park in the town.

They were met at the gates by Ali, also aged 19.

The victim was punched and kicked by the pair, and at one point a knife was held to his throat.

The duo filmed the attack and shared it on social media, with footage of the victim with a knife to his throat even being seen by his own mother.

During the attack, the pair stole the victim’s phone and forced him to open his banking app and send a large amount of money to Khan.

But they didn’t stop there, forcing the victim to call a friend and transfer more money to the account.

In total, they stole more than £800 from the victim.

Khan was given a two-year sentence for robbery and a nine-month sentence to be served concurrently for possession of a knife. Both sentences were suspended for two years. He was also ordered to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work.

Ali, of Oakworth Road, also in Keighley, was given a 20-month sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

Two other teenagers who were involved in the attack were dealt with at an earlier hearing and ordered to pay compensation.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable David Hunton, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with the victim in this case who has not only suffered physically, but was left traumatised and unable to leave his own home at one point. I hope this outcome provides some closure for him and his family.

“It is hard to comprehend what went through the defendants’ heads when they decided to carry out this terrifying and humiliating attack.

“They clearly planned it in advance and were not only content to violently attack their victim, but thought it was acceptable to film it and share it on social media.

“They have gone from college students straight into the criminal justice system as convicted and violent offenders. I hope they realise the gravity of their actions and get some help to take a different path from the appalling criminal one they have chosen.”
