MULTIPLE emergency services helped lower a patient down from the roof of York Minster after a medical incident.
Yorkshire Air Ambulance, paramedics, along with three fire engines from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 1.16pm on Tuesday (August 11).
Crews were able to access the roof via a tower in the Minster, with the help of an aerial platform ladder.
A spokesperson for York Minster said that a visitor suffered a “medical incident” at the top of the Central Tower.
An eyewitness at the scene said: “The crews were able to get to the patient up the tight stairs.
“They were at the scene for around an hour and closed Minster Yard to the public.
“I saw the patient being carried in a stretcher.”
York Minster confirmed that the patient is now receiving medical attention.
They added that “as a precaution” areas around the Minster were cordoned off while emergency operations took place. The cordon has since been lifted.
A spokesperson said: “We are grateful to visitors, residents, and businesses for their patience and understanding while this incident is managed.
"The welfare of the individual remains our primary concern. Out of respect for their privacy and that of their family, we will not be providing further personal details at this time.
"We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift and professional response.”
Yorkshire Air Ambulance landed at Bootham Park.
A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We received an emergency call at 1.16pm this afternoon (11 August) to report a medical incident at York Minster.
"A number of ambulance resources were dispatched to the scene, including an ambulance and the air ambulance, and one patient was conveyed via air ambulance to hospital."
