York to host first talk in national tour aiming to change views on ADHD

A series of talks aiming to challenge perceptions of ADHD are set to begin in York.

ADHD advocate and motivational speaker Ryan Swain will launch his national tour, You, Me & ADHD, at Hamilton Panthers FC at York Racecourse on Monday, August 17.

The talk, which starts at 6pm, will draw on Mr Swain’s personal experience of growing up and living with ADHD.

Mr Swain said: "I want people to understand ADHD beyond a list of symptoms.

"When we change understanding, we change how children and adults are treated.

"York is the start of an incredibly busy few months, and I can’t wait to get out there and keep changing the narrative.

"Football was a huge part of my childhood, but growing up with undiagnosed ADHD could make it incredibly frustrating.

"That’s why working with North Riding FA means so much to me."

The series aims to challenge stereotypes and improve understanding among parents, educators, and professionals.

Mr Swain will offer practical insights into education, behaviour, and the day-to-day realities of living with a neurodivergent brain.

His tour will include visits to schools, colleges, community organisations, and parent groups across the UK, focusing on the individual rather than the diagnosis.
