Poppleton Village Show returns with dog show, classic cars and brass band

A popular village show dating back more than 180 years will return this month.

The Poppleton Village Show is set to take place again this year, continuing a tradition that dates back to 1839.

The event will be held at Upper Poppleton Green on August 15, from 12.30pm to 4pm.

The show will feature a range of entry classes, including flowers, fruit, vegetables, floral art, handicrafts, baking, first-timers, and children under thirteen.

Other activities will include the Spud and Beetroot in a Bucket Weighing, performances by the Shepherd Brass Band, a fun dog show, a classic car display, and animal petting.

There will also be stalls to browse.

The event promises no entry fees, and cash prizes can be won.

On the day, attendees can purchase Village Show raffle tickets, with a top prize of two adult flights with Jet2 to any of their destinations.

The Poppleton Village Show is rooted in a rich history, starting with the Ancient Free Garden Society, which was formed in 1839.

The show has evolved over the years, but has always been a celebration of community spirit and local talent.
