New shop for Coney Street in York reveals how it will look

The latest shop planning to open on one of York’s key shopping streets has revealed how it will look.

As YorkMix reported in June, Scottish company the Dormant Distillery Company is to open a store on Coney Street.

Now more details of the Royal Mile Whiskies outlet have been revealed.

The store will be at 11 Coney Street, which was previously the stationer Smiggle.

It closed last June after the landlord’s decision not to renew the store’s lease.

Number 11 Coney Street was bought for £500,000 in 2021 by Trafalgar Leisure Ltd, a pubs business based in Harrow, Middlesex.

Royal Mile Whiskies is seeking permission for a new sign on the front, and a hanging sign from a metal bracket.

It will also put up temporary vinyl on the windows during the shop fit-out.

According to its licensing application, Royal Mile Whiskies would serve as the company’s flagship store for England.

It would open from 10am to 10pm daily.

The Dormant Distillery Company is based in Perth and is part of the Vintage Saga group which acquired it and the various brands it owns in 2022.

Dormant owns Royal Mile Whiskies which launched with the opening of a shop in the street of the same name in Edinburgh’s old town in 1991.
