An amber Heat Health Alert is now in place until 9pm on Friday, 14 August.
It covers York, Selby and the rest of North Yorkshire and the East Riding.
Temperatures will peak in the low 30s this week.
Although many of us enjoy the hot weather, some groups of people are more vulnerable to the heat. The message is please look out for older people, those with existing health conditions and young children, who are particularly at risk.
Take care around open water. While rivers, lakes and the coast can look like a tempting place to cool off, they are full of hidden dangers. Even on warm days, the water temperature can be dangerously cold, and tides, currents, hidden rocks and vegetation can catch even experienced swimmers off guard.
