Excitement is building in Darlington town centre as Pepe’s Piri Piri has teased the new fast-food restaurant is set to open later this week.

Excitement is building in Darlington town centre as a new grilled chicken restaurant will open later this week.

Pictures taken on Monday (August 10) show new screens in the restaurant window, with work well underway inside and tables and counters now installed.

Outside, new signs feature the chain’s logo, naming it the “the home of flame-grilled chicken”.

Pepe's Piri Piri was founded in 2004 and has built a reputation for bringing authentic piri piri to the high street.

The opening is expected to create several new jobs, including kitchen staff, customer service roles, and management positions.

Zoe France, centre manager at Cornmill Shopping Centre, previously said: "We are delighted to welcome Pepe's Piri Piri to Cornmill Shopping Centre.

"Our customers have been asking for more food options within the centre, and we are pleased to be delivering on that feedback with this opening.”

A Pepe's Piri Piri spokesperson added: "The team is excited to be opening soon in Darlington.

"We’re proud to be offering the community a new food option within Cornmill Shopping Centre."

While an official opening date has yet to be announced, a spokesperson at the shop told The Northern Echo it will be opening later this week, potentially by Thursday (August 13).

The fast-food restaurant has been contacted for more information and confirmation on an official opening date.
