A YORK bar which opened its doors less than a year ago has revealed it will be shutting after a ‘considerable rent increase’.
Wet, which first opened in 110 Micklegate last October, has announced today (August 11) that it will be shutting for good next month after an increase to the building’s rent.
The bar replaced Notes Wine Bar which closed last summer, just a year after it replaced Fish & Forest when the restaurant relocated to Grape Lane.

Owned by Ella Williams and James Wall, Wet offers range of drinks including a changing menu of wines and cocktails, alongside small plates and bar snacks.
This includes custom and batch made cocktails, which were made by Ella, and food made by James that focused on seasonal produce, using local suppliers where possible, and keeping the menu fresh with regular changes.

In a statement, they said: “We were never meant to be here forever, but a considerable rent increase means we’ll have to walk away from the bar sooner than we thought.
“That doesn’t mean we’ll be gone completely, we’ll still have some smaller scale projects going so keep an eye out for us around town.”
