A person has been arrested on suspicion of drink and drug driving after being stopped in a York retail park.

York Outer Neighbourhood Policing Team stopped a vehicle following reports of dangerous driving in Foss Islands Retail Park, shortly after 7pm, on Saturday (August 8).

The driver was arrested and has since been released under investigation, North Yorkshire Police said.

A spokesperson said: “The vehicle was also seized after checks revealed it was being driven without insurance.

“A number of other offences remain under investigation.”

Special Sergeant Harry Cornforth from North Yorkshire Police added: "Thanks to information provided by members of the public, we were able to quickly locate and stop this vehicle before anyone was seriously injured.

"As a volunteer Special Constable, it is incredibly rewarding to be able to help protect our communities and make a difference.

“We are currently recruiting Special Constables, and I would encourage anyone interested in policing and giving something back to their community to consider applying.”
