Three fire crews called to help person who fell in river at Pateley Bridge

A field fire, an overturned car and a person stuck in a river were among call outs for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service over the weekend.

On Friday (August 7) at 5.42pm, crews from Ripon, Harrogate and Grassington responded to a report of a person who had fallen in the river at Pateley Bridge and couldn’t get back out.

Crews used MOD 2 procedures and rescued the person who had no injuries but was checked over by Ambulance crews as a precautionary measure.

On Saturday (August 8), at 2.45pm, Harrogate crews were mobilised to a farm to deal with a combine and field fire at South Stainley.

Crew requested assistance from a further two appliances for water and crew power, Ripon and Bedale were then mobilised.

The combine ended up not being involved in the fire and crews extinguished the field fire which measured 60m x 20m using hose reels.

Later in the day, at 10.44pm, Crews from Ripon and Harrogate responded to an overturned Landrover Defender on Horsefair, Boroughbridge.

Both occupants were out on the arrival of the fire service with the driver unharmed and passenger requiring a precautionary check.

Fire crew made the affected vehicle and a number of parked vehicles which it had clipped, safe.

On Sunday (August 9) at 2.54pm, a crew from Harrogate responded to reports of a bonfire in a woodland at Fulwith Mill Lane. This was a fire measuring 3m x 3m. Crews extinguished the fire using four knapsack sprayers. Advice was given.

In the early hours of Monday morning (August 10), at 1.27am, Tadcaster crew attended an area of banking by the river, following a report of a fire in the open.

Crew confirmed this to be a large bin of waste and glass.

One main jet was used to extinguish the blaze and a thermal image camera used to check for hotspots.

The local council was requested to attend due to the bin involved and hazard of glass on riverbank requiring clearing.

Police informed.
