The weather is heating up again in York and North Yorkshire.
Temperatures could hit 34°C on Thursday according to forecaster Accuweather.
It is predicting 28°C on Tuesday, 32°C on Wednesday, 34°C on Thursday and 27°C on Friday.
Then the mercury is set to fall to 23°C next weekend, with rain forecast for Saturday.
This week will see the UK’s fifth heatwave of the year.
Two record-breaking heatwaves in May and June led to more than 2,800 excess deaths, and two more heatwaves in July have fuelled drought and wildfires.
The UK Health Security Agency has issued a yellow heat health alert for Yorkshire and the Humber, and London. It lasts until 9pm on Tuesday.
There is still no hosepipe ban in Yorkshire. At the end of July Yorkshire Water said its reservoir levels were at 64.8%.
A spokesperson said then: “We’re in a much better position for this time of year compared to last year, when levels were at 47.4%.”
Meanwhile health officials have warned of risks when taking some medicines, including ibuprofen, in hot weather as they can make it harder for the body to stay hydrated, regulate temperature or cope with sun exposure.
Dr Alison Cave, chief safety officer at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, said: “Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), commonly used to treat acid reflux and heartburn, have also been linked to a very low risk of a lupus-like skin reaction triggered by sun exposure, and common painkillers such as ibuprofen and naproxen may also increase sun sensitivity.”
