Rotherham: Police investigate after shots fired towards van in Yorkshire

Police are investigating after a shooting in Yorkshire.

South Yorkshire Police were called to the Rawmarsh area of Rotherham shortly after 11pm on Friday (Aug 7).

The force said it received reports of shots being fired from a dark-coloured vehicle towards a white flat-bed van on Harding Avenue at 11.12pm.

Police officers attended the scene and found evidence of a firearm discharge, but no injured were reported.

A cordon was put in place on Harding Avenue but has since been lifted, the force said.

Detective Inspector Hugo Denton said: "I want to reassure the local community that we have a team of detectives currently working at pace to piece together the circumstances behind this incident.

“Officers will be carrying out additional patrols in the area today so if you see them, please do speak to them if you have any questions or concerns.

"We will not tolerate gun crime - it puts innocent lives at risk of serious harm and whilst on this occasion no one was injured, the consequences could have been much more severe.

"We are now urging anyone who may have any information that could assist our investigation to come forward. Were you in the area at the time of the incident? Even the smallest piece of information could help us in finding those responsible, so it is imperative that if you know something about this incident, you report it to us."
