The search is on for pet Quail missing from home in the Holgate area of York.
Poppy, who lives on St Paul’s Terrace, says she discovered her bird had got out of its enclosure on Thursday and they have been searching for her ever since.
The bird is called Tony, due to it missing one of its toes, and it’s a Japanese Coturnix quail, about the size of a large potato.
Poppy told YorkMix Radio: “She is a very small ground dwelling bird with brown and tawny-cream coloured feathers and a very limited uncontrolled 1-2M vertical ‘flush’ flight.
“They tend to like settling under tall grasses and low, enclosed spaces for safety and have a peeping cry that can also sound like a small whine.
“She is also used to humans.
“As she is one of our beloved pets and a real little character we are hoping that she will be found safe but are aware of the threat of cats and cars in the area and so are just asking people to keep an eye (or ear) on their gardens and the local area.
“Your help is very appreciated and we can provide chocolate, a bottle of wine or unlimited weekly quail eggs to anyone able to help us find her.”
