Man with a knife arrested – ‘There is no wider threat to the public,’ police say

A man with a knife was arrested after an incident in Boroughbridge.

Police sent “a significant response” to an address in the Langthorpe area of the town last Saturday, 3 August.

In details just released, a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers arrested a man in connection with a number of offences.

“The man was taken into police custody where he was assessed by a mental health professional.

“Following that assessment, he was detained under the Mental Health Act and transferred to hospital to receive further treatment and support.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident remain ongoing.

“There is no wider threat to the public, and officers would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding during the police activity in the area

“The man was in possession of a knife and making threats to harm himself and others. However, he was in the property on his own at the time of police attendance.
