A family-run artisan bakery is on an award-winning streak.
Dan’s Pies, in Pocklington, have won two Great Taste Awards for their pies, and have been announced as a finalist in the 2026 Great British Food Awards.
The bakery, founded by Dan Leaver, makes handcrafted pies with a variety of delicious fillings, such as steak to the classic beef mince and onion, savoury chicken and mushrooms, garlic mushroom, and leek & lentils.
And it’s two of their steak pies have have received the Great Taste Award accolade.
Their Steak & Wetherby Brew Ale Pie has earned a Great Taste Award for the second year running, and the Classic Steak Pie has received its first Great Taste Award.
Some of the judges comments included praises of the “aroma of the warm golden pastry” and the “rich and tender” steak and that it “melted in the mouth, leaving a gentle meatiness – perfectly executed and delivered.”
And its their Steak & Wetherby Brew Ale Pie that has been named a finalist in the 2026 Great British Food Awards.
“None of this would have been possible without our fantastic collaboration with Wetherby Brew Co.,” Dan wrote on social media.
“Their ale is what makes this pie so special, and we’re incredibly grateful to have worked together to create something that continues to receive such amazing recognition.”
Dan’s Pies have also recently relocated to a larger bakery, as they’ve outgrown their original home. Their new bakery is just over the road from the first premises, and will also include a shop within the bakery for the first time.
The opening date for the new bakery is yet to be revealed.
“To receive another two Great Taste Awards is an incredible feeling, especially after the last few weeks of moving into our new bakery,” said Dan.
“Every award means so much because they’re judged purely on taste, and it’s fantastic recognition for all the hard work that goes into making every pie by hand.
“We’re a small family business, and to now have 13 industry awards is something we’re extremely proud of.”
