'Goes on until midnight': MP steps in after noise complaints from wedding venue

A Yorkshire MP has assured they are working with the local council after “ridiculous” noise levels were reported from a wedding venue.

According to its website, the popular wedding venue, The Monal by Jalwa, in Cleckheaton, boasts space for up to 400 guests.

Yet, incidents of “late-night fireworks” and car noise have been a lot for residents to handle, with some saying it keeps them up “until midnight”.

David Craven, 71, who lives next door to the venue, claimed that there were times when even the emergency services were blocked from the road.

David said: “They park on the roadside on both sides. When it is on, they block the emergency services. It goes until midnight, the noise – it’s ridiculous.”

Previously, the MP for Spen Valley, Kim Leadbeater, posted on social media in May that she had been contacted by a resident concerned about noise from the venue.

Ms Leadbeater explained that following a meeting with the venue, the owners were “in full agreement” that they did not want to cause any disruption for residents and the local community.

However, a post on social media made on wednesday (August 5), Ms Leadbeater warned that the issue – which had continued to be flagged to her online – could not be solved “via Facebook” and that, although residents were to contact the authorities, she was also still working to fix the noise levels.

Ms Leadbeater wrote: “Regarding noise from fireworks and high-performance cars at The Monal wedding venue in Cleckheaton, as with any concerns of this nature, all incidents must be reported to Kirklees Council.

“Following my previous communication with the owner of the establishment, the council and the police, and subsequent visit to the premises, I have contacted the owner again, expressing concerns raised by local residents, as I did previously; I am currently waiting for a response.”
