York Station Gateway £34m overspend sparks criticism
IT never ceases to amaze me when I read about various construction projects going over budget.
The York Station Gateway scheme is, we are told, £34 million in the red.
Some water companies have debts in the millions and HS2 has an overspend of billions of pounds.
How does this happen and keep happening?
If I spend beyond my means, I get a scathing letter from the bank and I sort it out PDQ.
I now take the view that whenever costing for a new project is announced, the thing to do is multiply the amount by five and add on a few million to be on the safe side.
And it probably still won't be enough.

Have we forgotten plight of the Palestinians? THE world seems to have forgotten that for 17 years, two million Palestinians in Gaza have struggled under a brutal Israeli military siege.
They have been cut off from the rest of the world and imprisoned within its borders.
Severe shortages of life-saving medicines, food, electricity and clean water are routinely not available and make life in Gaza almost unbearable.
Also in the West Bank, illegally occupied, armed Jewish settlers commit crime after crime against the Arabs and Palestinians, and no one does anything to stop this.
