No driver can pretend they didn’t see these restrictions on a York street – as it’s painted with quadruple yellow lines.
No, this is not some extreme new parking regulation, but a simple mistake.
Markham Crescent, York
It was spotted by Robin Dickson who shared his own picture on Facebook.
“Is this City of York Council at its finest? Repaired a strip of Tarmac on Markham Crescent yesterday and painted yellow lines back at the same time.
“Today they turn up and not appreciating that lines are already painted… proceed to paint a second pair on top!
“Ultimate jobsworth and utter confusion for motorists!”
A City of York Council spokesperson said: “This work clearly hasn’t been completed to our high standards, something our external contractor accepts.
“It has confirmed the work will be redone by the end of this weekend at the latest, after which it will be inspected by our highways team.”
People had fun with the error. “Doesn’t a double negative equal a positive?So you can park there. In fact it’s compulsory!” one person posted.
Another commented: “I think 3D yellow lines is the future!
“Plus with this council and government they will use it as an excuse to fine you twice…”
