Homes plans drawn up for former Leeds care home site

A former care home site could be turned into affordable homes after plans were drawn up by the council.

Leeds City Council and Termrim Construction are seeking planning permission for the Wood Lane development.

A design report said the scheme would help meet local demand for housing after the care home was demolished in May 2023.

It said: “There is a shortage of affordable housing in Rothwell.

“The demand is greatest for one and two bedroomed homes which can be best met on this site with an apartment building.”

People living nearby raised concerns over parking and possible anti-social behaviour when a public consultation was held.

The report said: “Concerns were raised about childcare, school capacity, GP services, drainage and sewer capacity.

“Some respondents suggested alternative uses such as green space or community facilities.”

But the council and developer decided new housing would be the best use of the site.

The report said: “The scheme represents a well designed, sustainable development that will make a positive contribution to the local area providing much needed affordable housing and bringing forward a brownfield site.”

A full planning application is out for consultation until August 20.
