Man found guilty of fatally stabbing 20-year-old in Huddersfield street attack

A man has been found guilty of manslaughter after fatally stabbing a 20-year-old during a fight outside a Huddersfield address.

On January 20, 2026, just after 4pm, 20-year-old Kyrell Fleary-Gayle went to an address on Greenwood Street in Huddersfield.

A court heard how Luke Belbin, 25, arrived moments later, and a fight broke out between the two men.

During the altercation, Belbin stabbed Kyrell in the chest. Kyrell collapsed on a nearby grassed area.

Emergency services attended, but despite medical treatment, Kyrell later died in hospital.

Belbin fled the scene and was picked up on Bell Street by Cameron Boylan, who was driving a Nissan X-Trail.

Four days later, Belbin handed himself in to police and was treated for a knife injury he had sustained during the fight.

Police later arrested Cameron Boylan, who was charged with assisting an offender.

Following a two-week trial at Leeds Crown Court, Belbin was found guilty of manslaughter and possession of an offensive weapon, on Thursday (Aug 6).

Boylan was also found guilty of assisting an offender with intent to impede Belbin's apprehension or prosecution.

Both men are due to be sentenced on September 17.

Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who led the investigation, said: “We welcome the jury’s verdicts in this case today and hope they will be of some comfort to Kyrell’s family and friends.

“The evidence presented during the trial demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that Belbin had armed himself and was prepared to use lethal violence against Kyrell.

“Boylan also attended that afternoon to assist Belbin, and did his best to aid him escape justice despite having knowledge of the acts the 25-year-old had committed.

“The case itself has been another sad demonstration of the appalling consequences of knife crime, and has robbed a family of a son. "We now await the sentencing of both men by the courts.”
