Watch: Moment masked raiders ram Wetherby Services ATM and steal cash machine

A passer-by captured dramatic footage of masked raiders using a car to smash into an ATM at Wetherby Services before stealing a cash machine.

Rupon Miah, 34, was leaving the toilets at the service station at around 2am on July 29 when he saw a black Nissan Juke being driven into the concourse.

The video, recorded by Rupon, shows the vehicle reversing inside the services before appearing to ram the ATM.

The machine can be seen damaged as four men wearing balaclavas get out of the car and head towards the services’ slot machine area.

Rupon, from Crystal Palace, London, said: “I literally came out of the toilet at the service station and saw the car basically drive into the service station and was ramming the ATM with the car.

“I started recording after they rammed the first machine.

“I saw four males all get out of the car with masks on, balaclavas.

“They were just raiding the slot machine game room in the service station.

“Basically after that I went outside and walked to my car and saw them driving off with the ATM machine in the boot of their car with the boot open.”

The footage comes after we reported last week on the raid at Wetherby Services, which saw police launch an appeal for witnesses following the theft of a cash machine.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed their investigation remains ongoing and no arrests have been made.

The force said a black vehicle, believed to be an older-model Nissan Juke, was driven into the services through doors near the M&S Food store before being used to repeatedly ram a standalone ATM.

Four men wearing face coverings and gloves were involved, police said.

Two suspects then attached what is believed to have been a chain to an “&PLAY” cash pay-out machine, which was pulled free using the vehicle before being loaded into the Nissan Juke.

The stolen cash machine was later found inside the recovered Nissan Juke after the vehicle was discovered burnt out in the Leeds area.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses, including anyone who saw the Nissan Juke travelling between Wetherby and Leeds between 1am and 5am.

Police are also seeking three men they believe may have witnessed the incident and could assist with enquiries.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We would like to emphasise that, at this stage, we believe these men are witnesses and do not believe they were involved in the offence.”
