MAJOR delays are expected across the train network today after a power failure.

Network Rail has said that there will be 'major disruption' after a power outage within Network Rail in the Greater Manchester and North West area today (August 6).

TransPennine Express said all trains were stopped due to a failure of the communication systems caused by a loss of power, and that services would be cancelled or delayed until 4pm.

A spokesperson said: "We are looking into how this disruption may impact your journey and we will update you on any alternative travel options as soon as possible.

"If your journey has been delayed, you may be entitled to some compensation."

The power outage has impacted multiple operators, including Avanti West Coast, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway, Merseyrail, Northern, and Transport for Wales.
