A NEW wine bar is set to bring a touch of France to York city centre.

Le Petit Rustique is set to open its doors in Castlegate, with new signs appearing in the windows to let people know that it will be opening soon.

The venue, which describes itself as a bistro and wine bar, will serve as a sister site to popular French restaurant Rustique – which has been a staple in the city’s food scene since 2004 - and is located next door.

It will be moving into the former location of Pairings, one of the city’s most popular wine bars and delis, which closed its doors in January after 10 years at the site to make way for the new venture.

A spokesperson said the idea to open their doors came about when the lease of the neighbouring premise came to an end and allowed them to return to a more intimate style of dining - inspired by the 'relaxed cafés and bistros found throughout France'.

They said: "Nestled next door to Rustique, Le Petit Rustique embraces the relaxed spirit of the traditional French bistro and wine bar. It offers a cosy setting for leisurely lunches, glasses of wine with friends and relaxed evenings of sharing food and conversation.

"Our menus celebrate classic French favourites, from Croque Monsieur, omelettes and crêpes at lunchtime to carefully curated sharing platters and an extensive selection of French and European wines as the day turns to evening.

"Whether you're joining us for a quick bite, an apéritif or a leisurely evening, you'll find the same passion for French hospitality that has defined Rustique for over twenty years, now in a more intimate bistro setting. Bienvenue chez Le Petit Rustique."

On its website, Le Petit Rustique does not provide an opening date, but says it will be coming soon with a link to a yet to be created Instagram account at @lepetitrustique.york
