A TRAVELLER encampment in a popular York village field has ended.
Eyewitnesses said caravans left Rufforth Playing Fields, off the B1224 Wetherby Road yesterday evening around 6.30pm (Wednesday, August 5).
Villagers reported a lot of rubbish left behind with groups of locals taking part in a clear-up operation which involved filling a skip.
As reported by The Press, an enforcement notice dated August 4 was posted in the playing fields car park, which is private land.

According to Rufforth Playing Fields Association the playing fields are home to caravan and camping facilities, Rufforth United Football Club, Rufforth Tennis club and newly formed Rufforth Circuits, along with Rufforth and Marston Cricket Club.

One villager who didn't want to be named said: "Operation clean up completed.
"Several villagers were out in force last night and this morning to clear up the rubbish left behind. Gas cannisters, tyres, car batteries - you name it.
"They trashed the washing machine in the pavillion as the power and water were turned off."
A spokesperson for the Association said the community was working with all the clubs to help with preparing the grounds for upcoming events.
A notice on social media said there will be club and association members on site today and "additional hands" will be welcome.
The chairman of Rufforth Parish Council said it would be supporting the association in the background for whatever help they need.
One of the cricket clubs home fixtures was moved to Heslington on Wednesday.
