Entries urged for The Press Business Awards ahead of deadline

Businesses and organisations are recommending entries into The Press BUSINESSiQ Awards.

The appeal comes as the deadline for entries to the popular event approaches on Friday August 21.

The awards, now in their 35th year, feature a glittering black tie dinner and presentation, and take place at York Racecourse on Thursday November 26.

The Press Business Awards aim to celebrate success, recognise achievement, and highlight the innovative people and companies throughout York district.

There are 11 categories, plus a Lifetime Achievement Award, which was awarded for the first time last year.

Among the winners in 2025 was Ellis Patents, a Rillington manufacturing company whose cable cleat products are supplied to more than 50 countries globally.

Ellis was proud to win in the Large Business category.

A spokesperson said: “For us, the award recognised the commitment to quality and innovation that we have always strived to achieve at Ellis. We believe in doing things the right way – that doesn’t always mean we win everything, but it does mean we always maintain our integrity. Everything we achieve is driven by the passion and pride of our team – and we like to think that is what came across in our entry and why we won this award.”

Ellis had also entered in the Manufacturer category, believing this was their strongest category. Even without a win, its staff would have had a good night, enjoying the great atmosphere of the event.

The spokesperson continued: “But we absolutely burst with pride when we were announced Large Business of the Year.

They added: “The main thing about winning the award is being able to truly say to all staff throughout the factory, “Well done – you did this! This isn’t just the management saying it – we really are that good!” I think the pride was felt by everyone.

“The awards are a chance to stop and celebrate, to come together with other amazing businesses throughout the region doing great things and taking business performance to the next level. Ultimately, it’s about saying well done to our employees.”

Last year also saw a new category to recognise York’s growing creative sector. It was won by York Theatre Royal.

CEO Paul Crewes said: “York Theatre Royal were delighted to be recognised in the Creative Industries Award category last year.

“It was brilliant to celebrate the cultural and community impact YTR has across the city and to raise awareness of the hard work that everyone across the organisation puts in all year round.”

“The awards are such a great way to shout about your successes and to celebrate alongside other York businesses who are doing such amazing work in the city."
