North York Moors National Park has been named among the UK’s top 10 spots for viewing the upcoming solar eclipse.
The partial eclipse, one of the decade's significant astronomical events, will be visible in the UK, with the North York Moors National Park offering 90.90 per cent solar obscuration, according to car rental experts SIXT.
At the park, the eclipse is expected to reach its peak at 7.13pm on August 12.
SIXT conducted research to determine the best places in the UK to watch the partial eclipse, considering factors such as cloud cover percentage, elevation above sea level, and solar obscuration percentage.
The top spot was awarded to Galloway Forest Park in Dumfries, Scotland, which provides ample unobstructed western horizon views.
The park also reports one of the lowest average cloud cover percentages in August (49%) and boasts the highest elevation in the top 10 at 843 metres above sea level.
With the UK set to only experience a partial solar eclipse, observers are advised to secure a clear view of the western horizon for optimal viewing.
People are reminded to never look directly at the sun with the naked eye, even during a partial eclipse, and to use ISO-certified eclipse glasses for safety.
