Convicted child sex trafficker returned to UK after international manhunt

A convicted child sex trafficker who fled during his trial has been extradited back to the UK after being tracked down in Switzerland following an international manhunt.

Sharam Muhamadi, 21, formerly of Hexthorpe Road, was charged with two counts of arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation.

Following the charges, Muhamadi was remanded into custody.

However, his defence team's application for bail was later granted by the courts.

From Monday (May 18), Muhamadi failed to attend his trial, prompting officers to launch an extensive manhunt.

The search initially tracked the 21-year-old to the West Midlands before he was eventually located and detained in Switzerland.

On June 9, a jury convicted Muhamadi in his absence of two counts of arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation.

On Tuesday (Aug 4), Muhamadi was extradited back to the UK and immediately remanded into custody.

He appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (Aug 5) and is due to appear before the same court again on September 3.
