THE Mayor of Malton has welcomed the news that Cauwood day care centre will remain open.
North Yorkshire Council yesterday (Tuesday) confirmed that Cauwood will stay fully open and fully functional until the new Whitby Road site in Pickering is ready.
Cllr Jason Aldrich said Malton Town Council backed this parent‑led campaign from day one, staying in close contact and offering support with those fighting to protect services.
He said: "I attended yesterday's meeting where the announcement was made that has finally removed unnecessary stress from users of Cauwood and their families.
"A heartfelt thank you from Malton Town Council and our residents to Caroline and Stu, who led this campaign with strength, clarity, and unwavering commitment. Their efforts, supported by parents and councillors, ensured families were heard. Along with fellow councillors, I want to thank them for fighting so hard for their own and other families for whom Cauwood provides desperately needed services.
"Thank you to the ‘Save Cauwood’ campaign. Malton is grateful to you for your passion and fortitude. To those who signed the petitions and voiced concerns, thank you. True community action at its finest.
"There will be many more challenges for Malton to face, but this community is proving itself to be one that cares for each other and I am determined with the support of Malton’s hard working volunteer councillors to do everything we can to protect and serve our residents and their needs. These families, are our people and we all share a duty to make sure they are supported when in desperate need.
