Police incident closes bridge in York city centre

A POLICE incident closed a bridge across York city centre yesterday evening (Tuesday, August 4).

The Press was at Ouse Bridge, in Low Ousegate and Bridge Street at 7.25pm with police, the ambulance service and two fire engines at the scene.

Emergency crews were on the bridge and riverside paths alongside, with river rescue crews also deployed.

A North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said it assisted the police with a person in distress.
