York hotel evacuated after fire breaks out – Crews on scene

Firefighters have tackled a fire at a big York hotel this evening.

The Travelodge on Micklegate has been evacuated. Guests and staff at gathered outside.

Crews from Huntington and Acomb were called to the incident at 5.36pm.

Fire location

There was a fire in the hotel kitchen, which has now been put out.

The scale of the damage is not yet known. No one has been hurt, and everyone has been safely accounted for.

Guests gathered behind the hotel. One told YorkMix that they’d smelled smoke and seen it pouring out of a first floor window.

Another said they’d been told the kitchen was out of action for the rest of the night and staff didn’t know when it would be back on line.

Fire crews are still at the scene as we go to press (6.20pm). A positive pressure ventilation fan is being used to help clear the smoke.

Micklegate is still open to traffic.
