TRAVELLERS have pitched up at a well-used York village playing field.
Eyewitnesses said nine caravans are camped this afternoon (Tuesday, August 4) in Rufforth Playing Fields, off the B1224 Wetherby Road to the east of the village, with the first arriving yesterday.
One concerned resident said locals now do not have access to playing field facilities including the clubhouse and bar and families are not bringing their children to use a playground as there appear to be "a number of dogs roaming the area".

It is reported that one van is on a football pitch close to dugout shelters and vans are also on a cricket pitch.
The resident claimed a car has been driven across the middle of the cricket pitch which is specially prepared for local team fixtures.
A spokesperson for Rufforth and Marston Cricket Club said a home fixture scheduled for tomorrow evening (Wednseday, August 5) has already been switched to another York club's grounds.
A City of York Council spokesperson said: "This encampment is on private land, so it's a matter for the landowner.
"The council would only become involved if the landowner specifically requested our services."
