North Yorkshire hotel with hot tub to be turned into Airbnb for 22 people
A North Yorkshire hotel with an outdoor hot tub will be turned into holiday accommodation for more than 20 people.
The Lonsdale Villa in Scarborough can be turned into an Airbnb for 22 guests after Shilpa Sanjeev’s plan was approved by North Yorkshire Council. The holiday accommodation will cater to single bookings of up to 22 people and cannot be let simultaneously to different groups.
The three-storey property at 45 Lonsdale Road is currently in use as a hotel, with the manager’s accommodation on the upper floor.
There will be no permanent staff presence at the site, but sound levels will be monitored electronically by a local manager, according to submitted plans.
An outdoor hot tub will be available for use by guests. However, its use is not allowed between 9pm and 8am.
“There is a local manager of the property, whilst not on site permanently, who is available 24 hours a day to control the day-to-day operations,” a planning report states.
It adds that a “digital noise monitoring device, which is GDPR-compliant but monitors ambient sound levels in decibels [will be used] without recording conversations or audio.
“This would notify the property manager if noise levels exceed 70dB during quiet time hours and 75dB in the daytime.”
The Highway Authority did not object, as it said the property was already operates as an 11-bedroom hotel.
The authority stated: “There is no off-street parking associated with the building, with none proposed, and the development is expected to continue relying on on-street parking.”
No comments or representations were made by members of the public.
The current communal areas, including sitting and dining rooms, will remain for future occupants to use.
The kitchen area is set to be made available for the guests to share, and “in lieu of the manager’s accommodation, additional communal space is being provided”.
Submitted proposals state that the conversion will “serve the same need, but in a different way”.
