Selby Town Hall has launched its autumn programme of music, comedy and theatre shows.
The newly announced programme will bring BRIT, Ivor Novello and Mercury Prize nominees, prime time TV comedians, chart topping singers and inventive theatre makers to the town centre venue from September to December.
The season features a global array of performers from Belfast to Buenos Aires, Italy to the Isle Of Man, and New York to old York.
Music
It kicks off on Saturday 12 September with one of the world’s most celebrated and charismatic tango singers,** Martín Alvarado**, who brings the authentic sounds of Argentina’s dusty back streets to Selby Town Hall, accompanied by acclaimed guitar quartet** Gerardo Villar Y Los Aguirre**.
There are plenty more treats in store for music fans throughout the autumn, including Mercury Prize nominated frontman of Manchester’s I Am Kloot, John Bramwell, two particularly intimate shows for BRIT and Ivor Novello nominee** Nerina Pallot**, and singer of The Zutons,** Dave McCabe**, and a rare UK date for one of the USA’s foremost folk and alt-country singer songwriters,** Dar Williams**.
Young Glasgow-based six-piece Celtic folk supergroup, and two-time Scots Trad Award nominees, TRIP, bring their high energy show to Selby for the first time on** Friday 30 October**, while British Blues Hall of Fame inductee and master blues guitarist,** Laurence Jones**, returns to the venue in December following a sold out debut in 2025.
There are also return visits for New York singer songwriter, Nell Bryden, and local stars** Holly Taymar and Gary Stewartin a double bill which pays homage to Eva Cassidy and Paul Simon, while Italian bluegrass quartet The Truffle Valley Boyswill be wowing Selby crowds with their hundred mile an hour banjo picking for the first time on Thursday 15 October**, shortly before original Beautiful South singer** Briana Corrigan** visits for her already sold out debut.
Comedy
There are comedy tour shows from Comics’ Comic Act Of The Year 2025 winner, Rob Rouse, fast-rising star** Finlay Christie**, who has already appeared on* Have I Got News For You*twice, and former Absolute Radio Rock ‘N’ Roll Football co-host,Ian Stone.
The venue’s hit monthly Sunday night comedy club also returns, showcasing three top circuit acts for £10 a ticket.
Theatre
For theatre fans, three hit festival shows are making their way to Selby this autumn. Andrew Macmillen’s play Don’t Cry For Me Kenny Dalglish follows a young football fanatic, from his time watching Scotland at the 1978 world cup in Argentina to serving as a soldier during the Falklands War.
Nigel Miles-Thomas returns to the venue with his acclaimed adaptation of John Steinbeck’s great American novella, Of Mice And Men, while one of the breakout successes of last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, high-energy physical comedy** The Crawl**, sees a pair of Lecoq-trained clowns bringing to life top-level athletes, commentators and coaches as two swimmers go head-to head in the race of a lifetime.
“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to secure such an eclectic array of award winners and festival favourites for the Town Hall’s latest programme” said Selby Town Council arts officer, Chris Jones.
“From the rich, authentic tango sounds of old Buenos Aires with Martín Alvarado to indie classics like Valerie from Zutons frontman Dave McCabe, top tier clowning in The Crawl and Dar Williams’ reflective alt-folk, there are sounds, sights and experiences on offer from across the cultural spectrum this autumn.”
