A FIRE has been deliberately started in a York park.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said a crew from Acomb was called to Dringhouses last night.

The fire was started in Leeside play area off Leeside.

A service spokesperson said the fire had been put out prior to the firefighters' arrival.

The incident has handed over to North Yorkshire Police.
