Opeth were the latest huge act to perform at the historic landmark – and they did not disappoint.
Halifax was the only 2026 UK date for the band’s Last Will & Testament world tour and the show saw them deliver a one-hour and 45-minute set, including The Devil’s Orchard, Windowpane and Hex Omega before closing with Deliverance.
Joining them as special guests were Halifax’s very own dark rock icons Paradise Lost, who have sold more than two million albums worldwide.
Paradise Lost frontman Nick Holmes greeted the crowd saying: “We are so glad to be here in our hometown on Yorkshire Day!” before encouraging the crowd to begin a Yorkshire chat.
He told the audience the band’s song As I Die was written in Dean Clough, and said he’d noticed the swimming pool on Skircoat Road was being demolished.
Opening the show were explosive rockers Katatonia.
Live At The Piece Hall summer season continues on Saturday with The K’s, followed by Scissor Sisters next Sunday.
There are also more acts still to play before the end of this month.
