The Met Office forecast for Sheffield, York, Leeds and Whitby, as a UKHSA heat health alert is issued for Yorkshire and the Humber.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a yellow heat health alert for Yorkshire and the Humber, with the Met Office forecasting temperatures to reach 28°C in the region.

The yellow heat health alert - which has a low impact and medium likelihood - will come into force for Yorkshire and the Humber at 9am on Monday 3 August and end at 5am on Wednesday 5 August.

The alert reads: “Minor impacts are likely across health and social care services, including: increased use of healthcare services by vulnerable people, greater risk to life of vulnerable people, increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm and water‑related incidents may increase, including risks from cold‑water shock and drowning.”

Who UKHSA heat health alerts are aimed at

The heat-health alert service, which forewarns of periods of high temperatures which may affect the health of the public, is aimed at health and social care professionals and any with a role in reducing the harm extended periods of hot weather can have on health.

Met Office Yorkshire forecast

The Met Office is predicting warm and humid conditions for Yorkshire and the Humber on Monday, with an increasing chance of showers during the afternoon - becoming more frequent and heavier overnight.

The forecaster’s outlook for Tuesday to Thursday is sunny spells and showers, these mostly across the west of the region on Tuesday, turning somewhat drier from Wednesday, with temperatures returning closer to average.
