New state-of-the-art hospice to open in West Yorkshire this week

A new £15.8m hospice is set to open in West Yorkshire this week

Overgate Hospice in Halifax will open its doors tomorrow to care for nearly twice as many patients following years of fundraising. The new building includes 16 individual bedrooms with accessible, en suite bathrooms, as well as tech-ready rooms featuring internet connection and smart televisions to create a home from home for patients and families.

Tracey Wilcocks, Chief Executive of Overgate Hospice, said: “There’s a surreal sense of wonder, pride and excitement seeing the new Overgate Hospice finally built and ready to open for the people of Calderdale.

“And it’s those kind people we have to thank for taking a dream and turning it into a reality. It’s incredible to see how people of all ages and faiths have come together for a common cause – the creation of a hospice to offer the best care and dignity to those in their final moments, surrounded by the ones they love.”
