A STRAW bale on fire was stopped in its tracks before it could spread further, thanks to the fire brigade.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said its crew from Tadcaster were called to a straw bale on fire in a field that then spread to 20m of stubble in Grimston at 5.33pm yesterday (August 1).

They also used wildfire tools and a ceiling hook to dismantle the straw bale, and saturated it with water from the water bowser,” said a spokesperson for the service.
