Whitby Traction Engine Rally 2026: Best pictures from event held in shadow of Whitby Abbey

Whitby’s annual traction engine rally is taking place across the whole weekend in the shadow of the town’s famed Abbey.

The event started on Friday and continues today and tomorrow (Aug 1 and 2) with vintage cars and tractors on show.

A fireworks display is also set to light up the sky over the famous Abbey tonight (Aug 1).

The rally showcases some of the most incredible and unusual traction engines from across the country and even further afield.

We sent photographer Tony Johnson along to the event on Friday afternoon to catch up with some of the people taking part.
