Bradford teenager jailed for life after Eid stabbing of Junaid Khan

A murderer has been jailed for life after the stabbing of a Bradford teenager in the midst of Eid celebrations last summer.

Three more men have also been handed smaller sentences for the part they played in violence and disorder.

Junaid Khan, aged just 19, was stabbed on June 6 as a fight broke out between two groups of men on Newton Street in the West Bowling area.

Some were armed with bricks and knives, a court was later told.

Mohammed Ibrahim Mehmood, aged 19 and of Woodroyd Road, was convicted of his murder and has now been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) pieced together CCTV footage to establish Junaid’s final movements.

Det Chief Insp Dan Bates said: “We welcome the sentence handed down today, this was a violent incident in Bradford on Eid, at a time when many people in the community were attending mosque.

“The use of weapons and violence on our streets will never be tolerated, and we will always seek to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

“My thoughts remain with Junaid’s family today," he added. "This sentence no matter how long can never bring him back.

“I would like to praise the local community who provided vital information into the investigation team, which undoubtedly helped secure these convictions.”

Three more men have also been sentenced for the role they played.

Luqmaan Rehman, aged 28 and of Birch Lane, was convicted of violent disorder and sentenced to three years' imprisonment.

Hamza Rehman, aged 27 and also of Birch Lane, was convicted of violent disorder and sentenced to three years' and three months imprisonment.

Mohammed Tayyub, aged 18 and of Newton Street, was convicted in relation to an assault causing actual bodily harm on Junaid on June 3, three days before the incident.

He was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment, suspended for two years.
