Serious crash closes York roads – Air ambulance lands in city centre

York city centre roads are closed this afternoon after a serious crash.

Kent Street, Barbican Road and Heslington Road are sealed off to traffic.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance has landed in the waste ground next to the StayCity Aparthotel.

Crash location

The crash appears to involve a motorbike close to the Victoria pub at the junction of Barbican Road and Heslington Road.

Paramedics are at the scene.

North Yorkshire Police stated at 3.31pm: “Officers are currently dealing with a road traffic collison on Barbican Road.

“There are numerous road closures in place near the accident. Please try stay away from the area, whilst officers deal with the accident. Thank you.”

At 5.27pm, the Victoria pub on Heslington Road put out this message: “We have been asked by the police to now close off our Heslington Road entrance.

“This is due to utterly irresponsible people try to ignore the police cordon for foot and and vehicle access. And circumnavigate the incident as they cannot be bothered to to take a walking detour.

“Sorry for any inconvenience. We are still open.”

At 4.53pm, York Barbican sent out this message: “Access to Q Car Park on Kent Street is currently only via Fawcett Street via a police cordon; police have advised that it will likely remain closed for the rest of the evening.

“Guests joining us at York Barbican this evening are advised to seek alternate parking/transport where possible.”
