A MAIN road has reopened in a York suburb after repairs were completed on a burst water main that wreaked havoc in the area.
Salisbury Terrace in the Leeman Road area of York has now reopened - almost two weeks after a burst pipe created a void in the middle of the road on the evening of Sunday, July 19.
The street has been closed since the pipe burst, with diversions in place for drivers and buses rerouted (with a free shuttle bus in operation) whilst the works were ongoing.

Last Monday, Yorkshire Water said the road closure in Salisbury Terrace was needed to repair the “significant burst on a 21-inch water main”, adding that it will “open the road as soon as it is safe to do so”.
They added: “Unfortunately, the burst caused significant damage to the road surface, which will take longer than usual to repair and reinstate.”
The road officially reopened yesterday (July 30) according to Yorkshire Water, with City of York Council adding that public transport was reinstated to the area today (July 31).
As reported by The Press at the time, several residents saw water enter their homes and the basement of a former pub in the area was flooded - with the developers saying this resulted in thousands of pounds worth of damage.
