Families can look forward to more affordable days out this summer thanks to a new travel scheme.
Children under 16 can now travel for free on most local buses in England throughout August, as part of the Government's Great British Summer Savings scheme to support families during the holidays.
The offer covers thousands of routes, including services in York and North Yorkshire, on operators such as First Bus, Stagecoach, and Go-Ahead.
Routes such as the X46 from Hull to York offer families a budget-friendly way to visit destinations like The York Dungeon.
David Skaith, mayor of York and North Yorkshire, said: "There is no better place for a Great British Summer of Savings than York and North Yorkshire.
"There’s something for the whole family, from our historic cities to our beautiful beaches, the summer holidays are when families and friends can come together and create lasting memories.
"It’s brilliant that this Yorkshire Day and every day over the Summer, families can enjoy free bus travel for children and for teens our £1 under-19s bus fare means they can travel for less too.
"There's so much on offer in God's Own County, so it's great that this support to make days out more affordable starts on Yorkshire Day."
The free travel scheme is supported by other cost-saving measures, including discounted children's meals at restaurants, reduced ticket prices for theatres and cinemas, and savings at popular attractions.
The free bus scheme aims to make travel more accessible for families during the summer break.
