Man who visited 10,000 pubs names North Yorkshire coastal town's top five venues

A man who has visited more than 10,000 pubs in his Great British Pub Crawl has named his top five venues for Whitby.
Dale Harvey has spent more than four years on his ‘Great British Pub Crawl’, which he describes as a “one man quest to visit all of the UKs amazing pubs and bars, whilst finding the best beers and the best eats along the way".
Earlier this month, the 44-year-old visited York, where he released a list of his favourite dozen or so beers.
Dale has visited Whitby several times, with his last visit several months ago.

On Wednesday, he produced a list of Whitby’s Top five pubs, also telling The Press he is producing similar top five lists for other towns and cities he has visited.
Dales says Whitby is “a magical place with so many pubs.” He also recommends people visit Whitby Abbey and the nearby Whitby Brewery.
He told The Press: “The pub scene in Whitby is brilliant. It’s a great place. There’s everything. It’s doable in one day. As long as you are all right with hills, it’s brilliant.”

Topping Dale’s list is the Green Dragon, which is tucked away in Grape Lane. Founded by brothers in 2016, it was one of the first craft beers houses in Whitby.
Dale said: “Everything is great here, the beer, the choice is phenomenal. You are always guaranteed something you won’t find elsewhere. I enjoyed a 15.5 per cent Imperial Stout. I don’t remember much after that, but what a place it is!”
Second on Dale’s list is Quirky Den, a micropub and gin bar, also situated in Grape Lane.
Dale said: “It does what it says on the tin. It’s a den, it’s quirky, it’s full of personality and character. It’s such a great little gaffe.”
He added that when he visited he was pleased to see a coffee drinker demanding a coffee being told the bar was aimed at beer drinkers, not coffee drinkers.
His third choice is the Waiting Room, a small micropub in what was once the waiting room of Whitby Station.
Dale said: “I love Railway Station pubs. Thisd is top tier,a great place, with a good selection of craft ales. I don’t think I have been in a better railway pub than this. It’s a reason to train.”

Fourth on the list is Esk Vaults, a craft bar bistro on Golden Lion Bank, close to the Swing Bridge.
Dale said: “It has a great range of craft beer, a phenomenal lin-up, in a quirky and rustic setting.”
Finally, at number five is Arch & Abbey, a micropub and bottle shop in Skinner Street.
Dale highlights its choice of beer, adding: “It#s a brilliant, little micropub, well worth a visit.”
Dale will continue his pub crawl next week, with Biggleswade north of London, with other locations still to be determined.
